Shooting Star Trails

I had the opportunity to go out and spend some time in the early morning hours with a couple of pro-wedding photographers who wanted to shoot some star trails. We had a good time visiting while our cameras snapped away shooting 30 second photos for a total of 90 minutes.

Lake Wichita (Wichita Falls, TX)

I spent some time out at Lake Wichita in Wichita Falls, TX. They're in quite a drought, so the lake level was really low. This let me get some pretty good photos by the old pier. Plus it didn't hurt there was an amazing sunset going on at the same time.

Hall-Bennett Hospital

I revisited the Hall-Bennett Hospital because someone told me there was a way inside. Previously, I had tried all the doors and had come up empty handed. This time, I was able to get inside and photograph this creepy hospital.

Welding Glass Photography [Experiment]

I recently found about a new DIY filter that produces some interesting results (from other photographers!). It turns out, if you put a piece of welding glass in front of your lens, it acts as a very affordable neutral density filter. Basically, you can shoot in daylight while doing long exposures. I've heard this looks best with clouds, water, and for removing people from a busy downtown scene. Since we have one of the three out here in west Texas (clouds), I went out to one of my favorite (and first) ghost towns, Penwell, to try some test shots. The clouds were not great, but I figured since I wasn't doing anything else...

Fort Worth Botanical Gardens

I had to go to the Dallas area for a conference for work, so I decided to go down a day early in order to find some things to photograph. I ended up at the Forth Worth Botanical Gardens for most of the day. It was such a peaceful place and a great place to take lots of photos.

Gorilla Bread [Recipe]

People that know me know that I don't cook much, but when I do, I can make some pretty rockin' desserts. One is The Dessertinator® (I may post about this soon), and the other is Gorilla Bread. I got this recipe from my sister, so she'll get the credit here. It's really easy to make and doesn't take long at all.

Abilene, TX

I visited Abilene, TX back in July for the weekend (I know, I know, I'm HORRIBLE at updating this blog, but I promise I'll get better!). I went to the downtown area and a few places out of the way to get some interesting shots. Let's just say Abilene has some weird stuff. I mean really weird stuff.

Palo Duro

This weekend I took a trip up to the Amarillo/Canyon area to visit Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The clouds were out in full force and they really make my photos look a lot better. The wind, however, was a constant battle. It had to be gusting around 20-30mph all day long.
