I finally decided on a spot for a vacation this year, but with a twist. I’m taking a two week vacation to Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming (the perfect spots for landscape photography).
What’s the twist? Instead of trying to plan a route, trails, and towns to visit, this year I’m letting AI do the hard work for me.
The Prompt
I fired up ChatGPT and wrote the following:
Plan a trip for two weeks to Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. Spend 3 days in each location. This will be for hiking and photography. I want to fly in and out of the same city.
A few seconds later, I received my daily itinerary. I didn’t mention that I wanted to visit Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, or Teton, but it included all three parks into the trip. I’m quite impressed so far.
AI even gave detailed ideas of what I should do in the morning, afternoon, and evening. For example it gave me this for one of the mornings: Morning Hike: Avalanche Lake (4.5 miles round trip) – great for morning light photography.
I also asked AI for best airlines to fly, what rental car I should get, and even what I should pack (that’s a LOT of underwear!). While I didn’t take all its advice for these topics, I am following the main route it suggested but with a few more trails added in to maximize my experience.
Keep an eye out for updates in mid-June for lots of photos and details during my trip.
