It’s funny how things can change over the years, especially ghost towns. I originally visited two that are close together back in 2010: Bradshaw, TX and Wingate, TX. Today I decided to take a quick trip over and see how things had changed.

Bradshaw, TX

Bradshaw is a tiny little ghost town where if you blink, you’ll miss it. Only a few buildings and houses remain. The houses seem to be well overgrown with weeds and tall grass, and I wasn’t exactly wanting to trespass while wearing shorts.

There’s not much else in Bradshaw, but right down the road from the Mercantile is an abandoned house (possibly a church?) with some interesting architecture.

Next I drove over to Wingate. A few of the buildings I originally photographed were gone.

Wingate, TX

Probably the saddest thing I couldn’t find this time was the abandoned school and gym. Where I thought it was located is now a giant A-frame storage building. I guess they had no use for it, but I’m still sad to see it go. I’m glad I explored the inside back in 2010. If you’d like to see that set of pictures, they’re here on Flickr.

On the way back, I decided to stop at the Bradshaw Cemetery. I figured there’d be some old headstones here and I was right.

There were lots of child and infant headstones from the late to early 1900s. Life must’ve been brutal back then.

It’s amazing how the headstones were, for the most part, in such great condition for being so old. It looks like a few of the old ones had been replaced with newer headstones, and there were a lot of “Unknown” headstones that looked new. There were also lots of World War II veterans buried here along with some Confederate States Army veterans.

It’s nice to see this place is being taken care of, even though it’s out in the middle of nowhere.
